Healthcare Software Development, built with the constraints in mind.

I build bespoke software for healthcare and health-tech businesses: patient portals, clinical workflow tools, care coordination systems and the internal dashboards that keep an organisation's data in order. One person, start to finish.

in short

Healthcare software development is the design and build of digital tools for clinical, administrative and patient-facing use in health services. It covers everything from patient record systems and appointment platforms to internal operational tools, referral pathways and reporting dashboards. What sets it apart from general software is the compliance layer: data governance requirements under GDPR (UK and EU), HIPAA for US-market products, and interoperability standards like HL7 and FHIR for systems that exchange patient data with other providers, labs or insurers.

what's included

I build on tools that work cleanly with healthcare data architecture: Next.js and React for the front end, Supabase for database and row-level security, Make.com and n8n for automation and care workflow integrations, FHIR-compliant API layers where interoperability with NHS or EHR systems is required.

Patient portals. Secure, authenticated portals where patients book appointments, access their records, complete intake forms, receive documents and communicate with their care team. Built with row-level data isolation from day one.

Clinical workflow and care coordination tools. Internal systems that manage referral pathways, task assignment, clinical handover notes and care plan documentation, without the overhead of an enterprise system built for a hospital ten times your size.

GP and private practice management software. Bespoke scheduling, clinical notes and billing workflow tools for practices that have outgrown their off-the-shelf system and cannot justify an enterprise platform.

Health data dashboards. Live reporting tools for clinical leads, operations managers and commissioners who need to see outcomes data, wait times and capacity without exporting it from four different systems every Monday.

GDPR (UK and EU). Data architecture designed for access, erasure and consent management, with audit trails that make subject access requests straightforward rather than a forensic exercise.

HIPAA. For health-tech products with a US-market component, I build with HIPAA's administrative, physical and technical safeguard requirements in mind: encryption at rest and in transit, access controls, audit logging and minimum-necessary data access.

HL7 and FHIR. Where your product needs to exchange patient data with other systems, I integrate using FHIR R4 endpoints and HL7 messaging so records move in a format that receiving systems can read.

NHS DSPT alignment. For UK NHS-facing products, I build access controls, data logging and data-sharing agreements into the architecture so your DSPT submission has a technical foundation to point at.

why itmatters

Most agencies sell you a healthcare team: a project manager, a developer, a business analyst who sits in on clinical workshops, and a separate QA resource. Context fragments. Clinical nuance gets lost. I work differently. One person, start to finish: we scope what the clinical workflow actually needs, I design and write it in short feedback loops so your clinical and operations staff see it taking shape and can correct it early, it ships tested and documented, and you get the code and full ownership.

common questions

What is healthcare software development?

It is the design and build of digital tools for clinical, administrative and patient-facing use in health services: patient portals, workflow systems, clinical dashboards, EHR integrations and internal operational tools. The distinguishing factor is compliance: GDPR, HIPAA where applicable, and interoperability standards for systems that exchange patient data.

Do you build HIPAA-compliant software?

I build with HIPAA's technical safeguard requirements in mind: encryption, access controls, audit logging and minimum-necessary data access. Whether the finished product meets your HIPAA obligations depends on your full programme, including your BAA, physical safeguards and administrative policies. I build the technical layer. Your compliance team validates the whole.

Do you integrate with NHS systems?

Yes, where the integration is API-based. I work with FHIR R4 endpoints, REST APIs and HL7 messaging. If the system you need to connect to requires a bespoke or restricted API, I will tell you on the call what is and is not feasible.

How is healthcare software development priced?

Every build is scoped and quoted on a free call. Fixed-price quotes up front, no surprises. You will have a clear quote before any work starts.

Do I own the code?

Yes. You get the code, the repository and full ownership. No lock-in.
